September is almost over, and as hard as it might be to believe, non-region play is slowly, but surely, winding down.
By the time October rolls around, just about every team within the Southwest Georgia Network coverage area will go deep into region play.
Having said that, here’s a quick recap of select games from our area for Friday, September 25:
Lee County 56, Mitchell County 0: The Trojans from Leesburg completed the non-region portion of their schedule in style, as they rolled past the Class A Eagles in a shutout. Lee County takes its 5-0 overall record into into its GHSA Region 1-AAAAAA opener at home against the Tift County Blue Devils next week.
Worth County 28, Cairo 15: The Rams jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead, and never looked back, as they stunned the Syrupmakers in a mild upset at Milt Miller Field in Sylvester. With the win, the Rams improved to 2-2 overall after losing their first two contests. They’ll jump right into GHSA Region 1-AAAA, Subregion B action next week, as they play host to the Dougherty Trojans.
Monroe 44, Westover 24: On the flip side, the Tornadoes snapped a two-game skid of their own, as they kept the Patriots winless with a 20-point win at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany. The win gives Monroe an overall record of 3-2, as the Tornadoes travel to Thomas County Central to open GHSA Region 1-AAAA, Subregion A play against the Yellow Jackets next week. Meanwhile, the now 0-4 Patriots will get a much-needed week off.
